Virginia, The Old Dominion State, played a large role in both the Revolutionary War & the Civil War. There are many battlefield sites to visit and to learn about Virginia’s contributions to those wars. Other interesting locations are Old Williamsburg and The Jamestown Settlement, the first permanent English colony founded in 1607. The Arlington Historical Society Museum and the Hampton Roads Naval Museum are also excellent places to visit. There are several galleries and museums to spend time viewing. The Chasen Gallery of Fine Arts, Chrysler Museum of Art, The Maier Museum of Art, Marsh Art Gallery and The Virginia Museum of Fine Arts are among the best. The James River and The Chesapeake Bay offer many water sports such as fishing, crabbing, boating and water skiing. There are many miles of rivers where kayaking, canoeing, tubing and swimming are enjoyed. Enjoying the Atlantic Ocean beaches is also a great pastime for nurses.
